With the new series of Westworld coming soon, you may be wondering about the music from the new trailer...
Yes you do recognise the music from the trailer (watch it here if you haven't seen it already) as it's a reworking of Nirvana's 1992 hit song Heart-shaped Box, done by the German/Iranian composer Ramin Djawadi. Djawadi has been involved in the music of Westworld right from the start, providing the soundtrack to season one including that massive rework of The Rolling Stones Paint it Black.
Jonathan Nolan, who created the TV series based on the film written by Michael Crichton, said he met Ramin Djawadi when Djawadi did additional music in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and later Nolan commissioned him to write the music for the hit series Person of Interest. Djawadi is also responsible for the music of Game of Thrones and films such as Blade Trinity, Ironman and Duncan Jones' Warcraft: The Beginning among a lot of other film and TV soundtracks.
Westworld itself will return to HBO for its second season on Sunday, April 22nd. Debuting in 2016 to become HBO’s most-watched debut series ever, Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. The season one cast included Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Tessa Thompson, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Jimmi Simpson, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Simon Quarterman, Angela Sarafyan, Luke Hemsworth, Clifton Collins, Jr., Talulah Riley and Louis Herthum. Joining the season two cast are series regulars Katja Herbers, Gustaf Skarsgard and Fares Fares.
Here's the track in full, without all that annoying trailer-y speak-y stuff. The soundtrack to Westworld Season 2 comes out soon.
