News - Tony Award Nominations
The nominations for the American Theatre Wing’s 71st Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards have been announced. Watch the announcement and see the full list...
The announcements were made yesterday by Tony Award-winning actress Jane Krakowski and past Tony Award nominee Christopher Jackson.
The pack leader is the musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 which garnered 12 nominations, including the coveted Best Musical, and the classic Hello Dolly is in line for 10, with Best Actor and Actress nominations for David Hyde Pierce and Bette Midler. Sally Field has a nomination for her role in The Glass Menagerie and Danny DeVito gets a nod for his role in Arthur Miller's The Price. Other "big names" on the list this year include Josh Groban, Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline.
The 2017 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will be presented to James Earl Jones. And, this year, a Special Tony Award will be presented to Gareth Fry and Peter Malkin for their outstanding Sound Design on The Encounter.
The Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards are bestowed annually on theatre professionals for distinguished achievement. The Tony is one of the most coveted awards in the entertainment industry and the annual telecast is considered one of the most prestigious programs on television.
Marking 71 years of excellence on Broadway, The Tony Awards, hosted by Tony and Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey, will be broadcast live from the Radio City Music Hall on CBS, on Sunday, June 11th, 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT time delay).
