News - Grammy Awards

The Grammy Awards winners have been announced overnight...

Is there anything that Donald Glover can't do? It appears not as Childish Gambino won four Grammy's last night in a lavish awards ceremony, including Best Video, Best Rap/Sung Performance, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Also winning four was country star Kacey Musgraves, whose album Golden Hour scooped the coveted Album of the Year Award.

However, the 2019 Grammys is also being hailed as "The Year of Women" with the female voice dominating the show. At the beginning of the show, Alicia Keys, the host, introduced “my sisters”: Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Michelle Obama and Jennifer Lopez. Thirteen of the 17 performances throughout the show were by women. Special awards were given to both Dolly Parton and Diana Ross. And  history was made as a woman won the Best Rap Album, with Cardi B taking the award for Invasion of Privacy.

History was also made by Quincy Jones with the 85 year old getting his 28th Grammy. His documentary Quincy winning for best music film made him the living artist with the most ever Grammys, although he still has a few to go to beat the most awards for any artist, with Sir Georg Solti taking that crown with 31.

But the most poignant moment, for us at least, was when Chris Cornell's children, Toni and Christopher, took to the stage early on in the evening to accept the award for When Bad Does Good which won best rock performance. Wearing a t-shirt with her famous father - who took his own life in 2017 at the age of 52 - Toni said: "I never thought we'd be standing here without my dad, he'd be proud and honoured, he was many things, a rock icon, the godfather of grunge."
